Our local Rock Steady Boxing has shown strong support for University of Minnesota research, including attending outreach events, taking part in the UMN PD Advocacy Board and attending lab tours to learn more about the science behind Parkinson’s care. They are a non-contact fitness program, with 18 locations in Minnesota.
Through high-energy boxing-inspired workouts, participants improve balance, coordination and confidence in a supportive environment.
You know we like to spread the word about free classes and events! Rock Steady Boxing class fees vary by location and are not universally free. For more information, visit their website and contact your local chapter directly. Some locations may offer financial assistance or a sliding scale fee based on individual needs.
At the University of Minnesota, we love to spotlight local exercise groups specializing in Parkinson's disease that make movement meaningful and fun. Whether it’s boxing, walking clubs, rock climbing, or ping pong fitness.
Do you have a favorite local exercise group you'd like to see featured in our newsletter? Let us know—we’d love to spotlight it!

Just when you thought Halloween was over, here comes the spookiest time of year -- MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT. No reason to fear, though! We heard a hot tip at the Duluth area support group last month -- the state of Minnesota has an informative website, online chat, and a phone support line, as part of their Aging Pathways service. (They do state that wait times are long right now, so you can also connect with national Medicare support.) You can check out their page about open enrollment here. Wondering why it's important? Their website notes, "For 2026, there are big changes happening. A number of Medicare plans will no longer be available, plan premiums and other cost sharing will increase, provider networks are changing, covered prescription drugs are changing, and more."
Medicare open enrollment began October 15th and ends December 7th. Take some time to review your options and see if there are any changes you want to make to your plan.
